Description
This is a striking vintage smoking jacket with a woven pattern in light green against a coppery red satin background. The smoking jacket has a matching shawl collar and has a jetted pocket at the left chest and at either side.
The shoulders are padded in typical 40s fashion.
It cinches at the waist with a matching fabric sash belt that has a fringed tassel at either side.
The jacket is fully lined in salmon red rayon fabric.
Age: 1940s, maybe early 1950s
Label: Bonnington Reg’d Tailored by H.V. Cowie Co Limited
Material: Probably rayon
Sizing:
Size L (large) is indicated on this smoking jacket, and although this probably fits about a US size 44, please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 19 1/2” / 50 cm across seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 26” / 65.5 cm long
Sleeve Inseam: 19” / 48 cm long
Chest: 50” / 128 cm, taken under the arms and depending on overlap
Waist: 49” / 124 cm around, but meant to be cinched
Hips:
50” / 128 cm
Overall length: 35“ / 89 cm, measured flat
Condition: This smoking jacket is in very good condition except for a some light stains on the lower part of either lapel (see last two close-up photos).
I haven’t been able to remove these stains, but a professional dry cleaner might be able to or perhaps you can find the right stain remover.
Otherwise, this smoking jacket presents itself very well.
This is a great example of a 1940s era vintage smoking jacket, hard to find in this large size - especially if you can remove the stains, this is fabulous!
