    Description

For sale is a vintage totem pole with 5 images: eagle, wolf, bear, whale, and raven.
Historically, totem poles were monuments of great meaning and value to the cultures that carved them.  They displayed images that represented a people`s origins and lineages, their rights, privileges, their exploits, achievements, acquisitions, territories, marriages, and memorials.  These recorded histories gave the people cultural identity, and proclaimed their wealth and status in the village and within their nation.
It is signed (engraved) by the artist Charles Mickey (1910-1988), a member of Hesquiaht Band of the Nootka Nation on Vancouver Island, BC.  There is also a written inscription dated 1966.  The pole could have been carved in the 1950s or 1960s.
This cedar pole is 25" H X 3 1/2" W X 3"D (the base is 5 X 5 1/4").  It is in very good condition except that the beak of the eagle is missing.  The wood appears as though it may have been left outside and it could be oiled by I will leave that up to the buyer and I am selling it as is.
I have been selling on ebay since 1999 so buy with confidence.
Thanks for looking and please follow my store as new art is added often.
