    Description

For sale is a fabulous huge Northwest Coast stained cedar Moon Mask.
This popular NWC image Moon Mask is in the traditional design of a human face with rim around the circumference.
The rim of the moon mask is wonderfully carved with crosshatch designs and split u forms.
Moon is often called upon by Shamans as a spirit guide because it is associated with transformation and is regarded as an important protector and guardian spirit.
The measurements are approx. 92 " in circumference; 30 X 26 " and 8" deep. The face is 51" in circumference.
It has large abalone shell for the eyes. Abalone is an edible mollusk whose shell has a colourful iridescent lining.  It is often used by NWC artists to adorn masks and carvings.
The Squamish Tribe stained their cedar carvings in the 1960s and 1970s.
Squamish Art has become much more collectible recently and is now receiving the recognition they deserve for their fine work.
It is signed "Eric Baker Squamish Tribe North Vancouver, BC Moon Mask".
The Bakers are a very prominent family of carvers.
This large moon mask is a really outstanding example and in in very good condition with minor wear.
Due to the size and weight the mask will be sent by surface mail.
