    Description

For sale is a Northwest Coast talking stick with three crests.
Traditionally, the talking stick was held by the speaker, who stood beside the chief at ceremonies and announced the chief`s wishes.  The talking stick was the property of the chief and was intricately carved with his crests and family stories, much like a miniature version of a totem pole.  Today, whoever is holding the talking stick at gatherings has the turn to speak.
This carved cedar stick depicts an Eagle, Chief & Snake.  The eagle face/beak & body are perched on a hat on the head of the chief with a snake for the handle.   This piece is expertly carved.
Signed "Eagle Chief & Snake Eric Baker Squamish Tribe North Vancouver B.C. 87".   Baker is from Squamish Nation and his entire lineage have been native artists.
    Measures 14 1/2" in length X 1 1/4" wide X 2 1/2" D and in very good condition.
