    Description

THE MYSTERY ERA OF AMERICAN PEWTER 1928-1931
by Carolyn Smith and Peggy Hixon, Universal Press Inc., OK, 1979.
“On the following pages we have listed in alphabetical order the trademarks of the pewter of 1928-1931 with photographs of a representative piece and the trademarks, plus information we have about the manufacturing company.  Marks we have been unable to identify are shown at the end of this section.  There are two indices in the back of the book: one listing the pewter by trade name and one listing manufacturers and the pewter lines they made.  There have also been a few marks we have seen that we know nothing about.  These are ‘Lenox Pewter,’ ‘Frederick Lunning Hand Made Pewter,’ and a triangle with the word ‘Wiese’ inside and the words ‘Handmade Pewter’ on two sides of the triangle.  Of the 86 different pewter marks in our collection, we have identified 63 as to company of manufacture and time of manufacture. The major portion of this book deals with these marks.”  This book, a collector’s item in itself, is an indispensable reference for the collector, dealer, or historian of American pewter.”
