    Description

    Jerry Smith is a Hereditary Kwakwaka'wakw Chief, artist and carver whose medium is wood. He was born in December 1941 to Betty and Jacob Smith and his brother Russell Smith is also a prominent artist. He was raised in the culturally vibrant community of Alert Bay on Cormorant Island off the northeastern coast of Vancouver Island. As well as working as an artist and carver, Jerry has also worked as a logger and fisherman. Jerry Smith is influenced by Doug Cranmer and Larry Rosso and also assisted Bill Holm restoring a plank house at the Pacific Science Centre in Seattle.
    Jerry Smith now resides in North Vancouver, B.C.
