    Miniature Artist Made Native Kwakiutl "Old Man of the Woods" Ceremonial Mask 1:12 scale
    This remarkable mask is a miniature copy of a Kwakiutl ceremonial mask known as "Wild Man of the Woods".  It is an artisan made piece and all hand made and painted.  The mask measures just 1 1/4" tall, not counting the tall head dress arrangement, 13/16" wide, and 5/8" deep from back to tip of nose.  The actual full sized mask this was copied from was collected in Cape Mudge B.C. in 1875 and is now in a private collection in Washington D.C.  I bought this miniature at an estate sale about 10 years ago. The back is signed "Kwakiutl", the name of the Canadian Native tribe the original mask came from.  I suspect the artist may have been a member of this tribe, judging from the extraordinary detail lavished on so small a piece.  A truly beautiful miniature for a dollhouse or a native art collection.  The piece is in new condition as, to my knowledge, it has never been displayed.
