    Description

Solid mottled Serpentine hard stone piece in shades of light green, expertly carved into the form of a bird with a remarkably glossy and smooth finish and finely carved and etched minimalist details.
No noted damage, very smooth surface throughout.
    This is a vintage carved piece (pre 1970s,) roughly 5.75" x 2.25" x 3.5" weighing 2 lb 6 oz.
Bottom is marked with arabic numerals and
Inuktitut characters.  An informal appraisal suggested it was probable the artist was Belcher Island's carver Lucassie Qittusuk (Kittosuk,) but the formal estate appraisal did not take that leap, so the actual artist is not confirmed.  Marks appear to be:  "1849"  and "
    ᑕ ᑕ ᓄᑯᐅ"
    From estate assessment:
    "
Inuit Bird Carving: 5.5 x 3.5 x 2.25. Carver signed with Inuktitut Syllabic Symbols.
Could be "nu ku u" or "ka ku u".
