    FROG "HLKKYAAN QQUSTTAAN"
Much of Haida art and culture comes from the sea, but the myths are peopled also by certain female figures who live in the headwaters of streams. They are the Creek women. One of them is the Raven's wife. Her first familiar, whom she sometimes calls her child, is the Frog.
In traditional Haida art the Frog is often found sharing his tongue with another creature in an exchange of power.
The Frog is the ever-present intermediary between the two worlds of the Haidas, the land of the sea. Imbued with supernatural power, the Frog is one of the sharman's spirit helpers.
A biography and subject storyline is attached to the back of the print.
Bill Reid (1920-1998) ranks among Canada's finest artists, past or present. His works - finely crafted prescious metals, stone, cedar, or ink on paper - are results of a diverse and magnificent talent, treasured by devoted collectors world-wide.
