Up for bids is an estate fresh hand crafted original carving by Inupiaq artist Joe Senungetuk (Engasongwok, b. 1940).
Joseph Senungetuk was born in Wales, Alaska, and attended the University of Alaska - Fairbanks (1959-61), then the San Francisco Arts Institute, where he obtained his BFA degree (1970).  He has worked for a publishing house, taught art, a writer for the Anchorage Daily News, and as an administrator at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.  He has written a book, "Give or Take a Century: an Eskimo Chronicle," as well. The British Museum even has a write-up on him.
The spoon measures 14 long. It is signed on the back of the handle as pictured, and is dated 1990.  Has some scattered tiny scuffs and nicks concomitant with its age, but no chips, cracks, or other issues.
***We will be listing a couple of other nice Inuit pieces, including another by Joe Senungetuk, so please check back.  We are always glad to combine items to save you money on shipping, where possible! No international returns allowed.
