    Description

The Caribou rib chest plate was bought in 1994 at the Arctic Travelers Gift Shop in Fairbanks Alaska.  The receipt states it is an artifact made of Caribou ribs and skin.
It must be to protect the wearer from battle.  It was a gift to me when I taught a college class on indigenous art.
I contacted the store where it was purchased and they had no additional information as all the people working in 1994 are no longer there.  They have no records on the history.
The holes that connect the ribs are all drilled by hand and slightly different in size.
The length is 10" and the longest rib is 10" and the shortest rib 8".
I am hoping it will find a home where someone can appreciate it.
